Keeping your BCC5000’s firmware up to date helps ensure smoother performance and access to the latest improvements. The good news: if your camera is on Wi-Fi, OTA (Over-The-Air) updating is the most convenient option—no microSD swapping, no file copying, just a few taps in the app.

Below are two ways to update: OTA (recommended) and Manual (microSD).
If your camera is connected to Wi-Fi, OTA updating lets you upgrade firmware directly from the MCS platform. That means:
-
No microSD formatting/copying steps
-
Less chance of file-placement mistakes (like putting files in a folder instead of the root directory)
-
You can handle the update in a few minutes, right from Settings & Info → About Camera
Brinno recommends OTA updates when the camera is connected to Wi-Fi.
Before You Update
OTA Update prerequisites
Make sure:
-
The camera can connect to Wi-Fi
-
The camera is linked to an MCS account
-
The camera firmware version is 0.46 or later
Power tips (important for both methods)
-
Do not move the camera during updating
-
Do not power off the camera during updating
-
Expect lights to blink while updating
OTA Update (Most Convenient)
Step 1: Confirm battery + connection
-
Power on the camera and ensure it’s connected to the server — look for a solid blue Wi-Fi indicator
-
Confirm the battery is over 50%
Step 2: Find the latest firmware in MCS
-
In MCS, open your camera and tap Settings & Info
-
Tap About Camera
-
Tap Upgrade to Latest Version

Step 3: Let the update complete
-
During the update, the Interval indicator and Shutter button blink
-
The process takes about 10 minutes (network conditions can affect timing)
Update complete signs
-
The camera reboots automatically
-
The Interval indicator turns solid green
-
The Wi-Fi indicator turns solid blue
Note: The camera may temporarily disconnect from MCS while updating—this can be normal.

Manual Update via microSD (When You Can’t Use Wi-Fi)
If your camera isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, follow the manual instruction.
Step 1: Confirm battery level
-
Proceed only when at least two LED indicators are lit on the rechargeable battery
Step 2: Download the firmware
-
Download the firmware from Product Support
-
Extract the compressed firmware package
Step 3: Copy files to microSD (this part matters!)
-
Format the microSD card first
-
Copy the 4 extracted files to the root directory of the microSD card
-
Don’t put them inside a folder

Tip: Use the microSD card from the original package, as noted in the “Before You Start” section on page 1.
Step 4: Update firmware
-
Insert the microSD card into the camera
-
Power on and wait
-
Interval indicator & Shutter button blink
-
Takes about 10 minute
Update complete signs
-
The camera reboots automatically
-
The Interval indicator turns solid green
One Last Tip: Plan Your Update Window
No matter which method you choose, treat firmware updating like a “hands-off” moment: don’t bump the camera, don’t shut it down, and give it the full 10 minutes so the update finishes cleanly.
If you can use Wi-Fi, OTA is the easiest route—fewer steps, fewer moving parts, and much less room for error.
