A major step toward a safer and more modern railway system in Valtellina: the new steel bridge over the Mallero stream in Sondrio, along the Colico – Sondrio – Tirano line, has been successfully installed.

Commissioned by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and built by Impresa Luigi Notari, the project introduced a 37.8-meter robust and innovative structure, replacing the old deck to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability of the railway line.

This work was possible to aan investment of around €3 million, but especialty thanks  the daily work of 18 skilled workers and the use of a 650-ton crawler crane owned by Vernazza Autogru. The entire process, which lasted 8 months, was documented by JBS Agency through photography, video, and Brinno time lapse cameras.

The Challenge

Replacing a railway bridge at such a strategic point as the Mallero stream posed a remarkable engineering and logistical challenge. The operation required precise coordination to dismantle the old structure and install the new one, while ensuring the continuity of railway traffic and the maximum safety throughout the process.

The Solution

To capture the project clearly and engagingly, JBS Agency deployed Brinno time lapse cameras:

  • Three Brinno TLC 300 cameras
  • One Brinno BCC 2000 cameras

During the 8-month construction period, the cameras were relocated multiple times to record the project from different perspectives, effectively highlighting every stage of the work. The TLC 300’s compact and lightweight design made installation quick and flexible, without disrupting the pace of construction.

The footage benefited from:

  • HDR 1080p quality – ideal for handling varying lighting conditions on site
  • Long battery life – perfect for uninterrupted long-term projects
  • Weatherproof housing – essential for outdoor use
  • Programmable intervals – to deliver smooth and compelling time lapse sequences

The Result

The result is a powerful visual narrative: Brinno’s time lapse footage, combined with JBS Agency’s video and photography, captures not only the engineering achievement but also the broader value for the territory and for a safer, more sustainable railway system.

Thanks to the ease of use and versatility of Brinno cameras, every stage was documented with high-quality imagery and multiple viewpoints—turning a complex technical intervention into a clear, engaging, and emotional story.
