Decorating eggs is a fun tradition that kids of all ages enjoy. From painting to using glue, there are many different ways to decorate eggs for Easter. We will be teaching you how to dye eggs using basic food coloring.
What you need for this craft:
- Hard boiled white eggs
- Food coloring
- At least 6 bowls/cups deep enough to fully emerge an egg
- White vinegar
- Tongs/Spoon
- Light colored crayons
- Metal drying rack/cake rack
In your bowls/cups mix 1 teaspoon of white vinegar with ¼ teaspoon of food coloring. Pour ¾ of a cup of water into your vinegar-dye mixture. Make sure there is enough liquid to fully submerge your egg.
Use your light colored crayon to draw cute designs on your eggs. Your designs will become visible after you dye your egg. Get creative with your eggs designs and don’t be afraid to use google for inspiration.
Carefully move your eggs to the dye mixture and let it sit in the dye for 3-5 minutes, or as long as desired to get the color you want. The longer the egg stays in the dye the deeper the color.
When you are satisfied with the color of your eggs, remove them and let them dry on a metal drying rack/cake rack. Using a drying rack will help your eggs dry quickly and not damage their color. Do not use a plastic rack otherwise color might permanently stain the plastic.
Wait until the eggs are fully dry before dipping into a new color or doing any further decorating.

Using Time Lapse
While shooting time lapse for most small crafts we recommend using 3-5 second intervals. Make sure your lighting is good so that your camera is able to record all the brilliant colors you use.
